Digital Vehicle Forensics is a rapidly evolving field of forensics that involves the acquisition and analysis of digital data (digital evidence) from motor vehicle electronics systems. Sources of digital evidence in a motor vehicle are increasing every year and can include:
- Event Data Recorders (EDR)
- Telematics/Infotainment Systems
- Key Fobs
- Dash Cams (Front & Rear) with data storage capability,
- Self-Driving and Autonomous Vehicle ECUs (electronic control units) with data storage capability,
- Other ECU’s that store data in the vehicle
- After-market technology with data storage capability
- Data that can be transmitted from the motor vehicle and stored by a Manufacturer or Third Party
- Data that can be stored on an APP on the occupant’s smartphone
